Tucked into the Bishop Arts District, Spinster Records has long been a beacon for vinyl lovers in Dallas. But behind the racks of indie essentials and soul gems is Miranda Evans – buyer and RSD wrangler. We caught up to talk dream in-store sets, her desert island albums, and why women feel at home at Spinster.
Tell us about your role at Spinster, what does your typical day look like?
I currently am the buyer for the shop so I do most of the ordering and restocking for us. My daily tasks usually involve basic sales associate duties, assessing our inventory and handling our shipments. I am also in charge of Record Store Day every year so I take care of the ordering, entry and running it the day of the event.
“There is no right or wrong way to collect vinyl so us having that mentality makes it more inviting to ask questions and learn from each other.”

If you could have any band or artist play in store, who would you choose?
Oh man, the list would be so long but I’ll have to go with who I have currently on repeat and that’s Ethel Cain, Mannequin Pussy, or Feeble Little Horse would be so insane in the best way.
How is Spinster encouraging more women into the store?
I think just right off the bat seeing a majority female staff can be more inviting for women. We try our best to create an environment that isn’t pretentious or judgemental especially knowing how male dominating this field is. There is no right or wrong way to collect vinyl so us having that mentality makes it more inviting to ask questions and learn from each other.

What’s your favourite thing about the music scene in Dallas?
I love that it’s always evolving. One of my favourite bands to see or have played at the shop is Roach Noises.
If you went to live on a desert island, which 3 records would you pack?
Death Cab For Cutie – Transatlanticism
Title Fight – Floral Green
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Fever To Tell
This question always stumps me and I go blank or will change it day to day. It will be kind of a sad island but I’m here for it.
Which female musicians are you loving most right now?
Definitely going to mention Ethel Cain and Mannequin Pussy again but I also love Doja Cat, Boyharsher, Solange, Fiona Apple, Tele Novella, Scowl, Amyl & The Sniffers, Indigo De Souza. I know the list goes on and on in my head but those are the majority of what I’ve been listening to this year!
